Microsoft Warns the Near Retirement of Windows XP

Time to Take Action to Move Off of Windows XP

Windows XP as the second most popular operating system in the world finally ushers its retirement in the PC world. In just one year, on April 8, 2014, Microsoft will stop delivering security updates for Windows XP. The end is near for Windows XP.

"You should take action to move off of Windows XP," Microsoft said Monday. "After April 8, 2014, there will be no new security updates, non-security hotfixes, free or paid assisted support options, or online technical content updates." Most XP support for regular consumers ended in 2009, although security updates continue to roll in, but not for long.

This means that if you are a Windows XP user, you will only have one year to continue to run Windows XP on your PC and probably keep Windows XP going with a good anti-virus package, but that will only protect you from known threats.

With the release of Windows 7 and Windows 8, there must be a small portion of people still use Windows XP. If you are a Windows XP user, it is time to take action to move off of Windows XP. In fact, even when Windows 7 emerged, many users including businesses and home users still stayed put on Windows XP.

Many home users refuse to dump XP arguing that upgrading is unnecessary when they still have a perfectly good PC, and many people have personal preference for Microsoft's aging OS.

Many companies have refused to upgrade because there is no simple path from Windows XP to Windows 7 in terms of upgrade packages. That lack of a direct path has put some strain on companies that do not have the support of IT workers. Microsoft is telling upgrade customers that Windows 8 "is the modern OS for modern businesses, building on Windows 7 fundamentals like speed, reliability and security, while creating a modern platform designed for a new generation of hardware options."

No matter for what reasons, you still use the Windows XP operation systems, you'd better upgrading your system before the near retirement of Windows XP.
